Happy Spring!
Budget Vote: On Tuesday, May 15, the Shenendehowa community will be voting on the budget for the 2012-2013 school year. Please visit Shen's website for more information pertaining to next year's budget. The budget vote will take place in the gymnasium at the Gowana Middle School on the Shenendehowa Main Campus on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Polls open at 7am and will remain open until 9pm.
Field Day: Field Day is coming up on June 7th (rain date is June 14th). Under the supervision of our own Coach Gifford, this is a fun-filled day for all the Okte students, but many volunteers will be needed to make it a success. Keep an eye out for Field Day volunteer forms coming soon!
Science Fair / Spring Book Fair: On June 7th will be Okte PTA's Annual Science Fair and Spring Book Fair in conjunction with the Ice Cream Social. What a great family event – something for everyone. Come enjoy our students' imaginative and inventive sides, take advantage of our buy one, get one free (BOGO) sale and have an ice cream sundae to top it all off! Look for more info about this event coming home soon.
Moving Up Day: On Wednesday, June 20, we will be hosting 5th grade's Moving Up Day. We are desperately looking for someone (preferably a 4th grade parent or two) to chair this event. If you are interested, please contact either Kathy Crouth at 373-1778 or Jill Delaney at 383-1270 as soon as possible.
School Banking: School banking has started. We are happy to have CapCom as our School bank this year. School banking will take place every Friday morning from 8:45-9:15 in the front lobby at Okte. If you have not signed up to participate in banking you still can - it is never too late to start help teach our children the value of saving. You can pick up a banking packet in the main office at Okte.
Join the PTA: The Okte PTA has a lot of exciting things planned for you and your children this year. As a PTA member you have input into important decisions like how PTA money is spent, which activities are sponsored, and planning for the future. Only PTA members have a “voice” to vote on budgetary issues at PTA meetings. Since your PTA membership card is valid for one year, every year you must renew your membership. Membership is only $5 per person, and you get a free student directory, a Perks card for extra benefits at PTA events throughout the year. Register your Price Chopper card: Sign up with the “Tools for Schools” program and OKTE earns points towards free playground and classroom equipment.
PLEASE NOTE: Shoppers must re-enroll their Price Chopper Advantage card to participate in the 2011-2012 program!
Every time you shop, points are automatically credited. Anyone can sign up and designate OKTE as their school of choice. So get your neighbors, friends, parents, and grandparents< registered for great free stuff for our kids! Go to www.pricechopper.com and click on the Tools for Schools icon at the bottom of the page.
Mailing List: The Okte PTA now has a new mailing list (powered by Google Groups). You can join by entering your email address below (any email address is fine - it does not have to be a gmail email address.)

Note to School: Is your child late to school? Absent? Going home early? Being picked up? Here is a note you can print out and easily fill in to provide this information to the school (and the Okte office staff encourage you to use this standard format.) If you can't print it, then you can purchase a pad of these notes for $1.50 in the main office.
